Phone scam targets local musician
Local entertainer Danny Beal received a couple of bogus calls on his cell phone Thursday, Aug. 7. The first caller told him his MasterCard had expired and that if he (Danny) recited back his MasterCard number, the card could be reactivated.
"The first call I got was from a computer generated female voice," Beal said.
After the second call, "from a man that sounded like an English gentleman," Beal hung up and dialed the number.
"That's when I got a message that this number doesn't exist," Beal said.
Beal said the number was 919-692-6063.
"I just wanted to let people to know about it and warn them not to answer the call or not respond to their questioning or demands," Beal said.
An Internet search of the number turned up warnings about the phone number being a scam or phishing.
