Peaslee wins three wrestling matches at league meet
Boothbay Region High School wrestler Draco Peaslee is off to a strong start this season. Peaslee, who placed third in the State Class C 145-pound division last season, won all three of his matches during a Mid-State League meet in Dixfield.
Peaslee’s early season success wasn’t matched Dec. 5 by his teammates. Boothbay Region defeated Monmouth Academy for its lone victory in four matches.
A major challenge facing this year’s wrestling squad is a lack of experience and depth. Boothbay Region competed in only six of the 14 weight classes. Peaslee and teammate Nick Labonte lead an inexperienced squad of four other wrestlers this season. Only Labonte has been with the wrestling program since its return in 2013.
“The combined experience for the six wrestlers heading into the meet was 4.5 years,” said Boothbay Region coach Allan Crocker.
Peaslee is wrestling in the 160-pound division this season. He pinned all three of his opponents in the league meet. Teammate Dylan Peters placed fourth in the Class C State 132-pound division last. He also moved up in weight class this season. He won by a pin and forfeit in the 145-pound division at the meet.
Other wrestlers winning in the season’s first meet were John Lucas (170), three forfeits; Cameron Crocker (195), three forfeits; Connor Demmons (220), three forfeits; and Nick Labonte (126), one forfeit.
Boothbay Region’s next meet is Saturday, Dec. 12 in Rumford.
