Ode to Joe Stover
Dear Editor:
I, along with countless other former Boy Scouts who had the privilege of having Joe Stover as our Scout Master, were saddened to learn of his recent passing.
Joe served selflessly as an adult Scout leader for years in the late 60s and 70s. He, along with some other fathers, provided many opportunities for us to participate in, hikes, camp outs, summer camp, skill building experiences, games and trips, all while building confidence and camaraderie. He put in countless hours and a huge amount of effort into the program and the local youth.
We, who benefited, are much better for his selfless efforts.
The Scout Law says a Boy Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. Joe not only taught us this law, but he actually personified it and led by that example.
I know I speak for so many other local former Scouts when I give huge thanks to Joe, as well as send our heartfelt condolences to his entire family.
