Ocean Point

Wed, 05/10/2023 - 7:30am

As each weekend passes it is wonderful to see Ocean Point slowly coming alive again. For those lucky enough to be at the Point this past weekend we were treated to some spectacular weather, almost summer-like really. It won’t be long now before we are in full swing with activities, sports and social events.

Just a reminder that this Saturday, May 13 a celebration of life will be held for our dear Ocean Point friend Pat Farrin from 1-4 p.m. at the Opera House. Shuttle service will be provided from the parking lot of the Boothbay Region schools, all are invited to attend.

Sadly, I have learned of the passing of two very special Ocean Point residents, Joan Plummer and Corrine McIntyre. Both of these incredibly talented ladies achieved many successes in their professional careers, each in their own unique way. Although their artistic style was different both had many commonalities, their love and devotion to family, art, Ocean Point and their kind and gentle demeanor.

Joan Plummer passed away April 21 in Attleboro, MA. Joan’s husband was the very talented artist Carlton Plummer and Joan was just as talented a watercolorist as he. I remember visiting their studio many times and admiring her beautiful paintings of flowers; she had an incredible talent for creating lovely gardens and her gardens were featured many a summer on the Garden Tour. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a warm and kindhearted individual who enjoyed family, life and the beauty of Ocean Point. She was also devoted to her church and served as a Eucharist Minister at Our Lady Queen of Peace. Our deepest condolences to her son Barry and Denise Flores, son Kevin and Sarah Dinklage, son Bruce and his wife Betsy, and son Gerry and his wife Nancy; and to her 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A donation may be made in Joan’s memory to the Boothbay Region Land Trust.

Artist Corinne McIntyre passed peacefully at her home on Van Horn Road on May 2 with her family by her side. As with Joan I often visited Corinne’s gallery to admire her beautiful works of art. She too was a multi-talented well-known artist. Corinne could often be seen along Shore Road painting what she loved most, Ocean Point. Painting was certainly her passion, and she proudly expressed this both verbally and in her artwork many times. Corinne was so very kind, caring and thoughtful to all and treasured her many friendships. Some of those friendships developed while meeting at her gallery. One of Corinne’s favorite pastimes was dining at the Inn with friends. She thoroughly enjoyed the food, the ambiance and a good glass of wine! Our condolences to her family members, son Jeffrey Pascoe and her grandchildren Ariel, Daniel, Alisia; and Alisia’s partner Ismael Beltran and their son Julio. Her husband Fred, her brother Richard Donnellon, and her son Bradley Pascoe predecease Corrine. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations may be made in Corinne’s memory to the Boothbay Region Land Trust.

Congratulations to Jack Libby who graduated from the University of Maine at Orono last weekend and to Hattie Slayton who will be graduating from Bowdoin College at the end of this month. We wish them and all our graduates much success and happiness in the next chapter of their lives.

Again, a reminder the spring letter from our President Alex Hall is forthcoming along with the activities calendar. Alex is planning a clean-up The Point day on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Information regarding these events can be found on the website as can the beautiful prints of Grimes Cove by Donald Demers which are for sale.

    Have a great week!
