Ocean Point Column
Happy 2025 to everyone! I find it disconcerting that another year has flown by so very quickly, however I have begun my annual ritual of counting the days when we return to Ocean Point.
I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays with family and loved ones. I heard from so many Ocean Pointers during the season through cards and emails, so thank you. I especially love the family pictures. It’s very heartening to be able to stay connected with summer friends through the winter months.
2024 was quite an eventful year in so many ways beginning with the January storms that caused major road and structural damages to homes in and around the area. How lucky we all were to have the swift assistance of the Boothbay Road Crew to help us repair the damage in a timely manner. Many of us had doubts as to what the summer would bring but the town stepped in and quickly remedied the situation. They are an amazing group of individuals and we owe them a great deal of thanks.
Last summer we experienced the best weather that I can recall in many years. How wonderful to have day after day of sunshine, blue skies and seasonal temperatures that lasted well into the fall. At the end of the season I was lamenting the fact that our water was being turned off, as we would have loved to have extended our stay.
The summer of 2024 activities was one of our best yet. Not only did we have many of our traditional events but also some new and unique and educational ones as well. If you have an idea for an event that you would like to chair please reach out to the Activities Committee, we’d love to hear from you.
2024 was a year of many joyous occasions for Ocean Pointers and their families. Many babies were born, several Ocean Pointers exchanged weddings vows and some milestone birthdays were celebrated. At the same time we sadly said good-bye to quite a few beloved Ocean Pointers.
Several of our residents have experienced various medical challenges this past year and we wish them all a very speedy recovery and a healthy year ahead.
Our college residents are currently home on semester break enjoying some well deserved down time. I’ve heard that most enjoyed their first semester and are doing quite well academically.
Congratulations to Phoebe Pohl who has had a very successful cross country season at Bates. Phoebe will graduate in May.
Ciara Rush and Zach Arnpriester are both members of the track team for their respective schools and hope to have a winning season.
Not long ago Ciara gave an outstanding performance in her school’s production of “Pride and Prejudice."
It was a busy year but I’m ready to move on to the New Year ahead as I’m sure many of you are.
I am most grateful for 2024 and the time I spent with family, my health and the health of my family and my many Ocean Point friends. I wish you all a happy healthy 2025!
Have a great week!
