Ocean Point Column: Summer slowing down but days are beautiful

Tue, 09/13/2022 - 10:00am

Although Labor Day is the “unofficial “ end of summer I’m optimistic that we still have many summer-like days ahead until the Autumn Equinox on the 23rd of this month.

A sure sign that the season is winding down is the absence of boats on their moorings, slowly but surely they are beginning to disappear from our coves. Boat traffic along the shore has slowed down considerably too. There are still plenty of foot traffic and sunset seekers each night.

Congratulations to Devon Clark and Sean Boyle on their recent marriage. Devon is the daughter of Susan and Joe Clark. Susan as you may know published her wonderful book titled,” Past Images of Ocean Point” and is the administrator of our Ocean Point Facebook page, All Things Ocean Point.

Devon’s sister Abby Clark competed in the American Ninja Warrior Finals in Las Vegas along with 68 other competitors, congratulations Abby.

Saturday, Sept. 10 was what my dad would describe as “a real Ocean Point day” and it certainly was the perfect day for the wedding of Alex Johnson and Kacper Adach. Alex is the daughter of Tim and Tracy Johnson and granddaughter of Sally and Allen Johnson. Congratulations to both of them.

Some of our Ocean Point residents are here enjoying the last days of summer. It’s nice to see Jack and Kathy Ford along with their daughter Beth and son in law Anthony Luongo relaxing on their front porch.

On a sad note, long time Ocean Pointer Priscilla Hayes passed away peacefully on Aug. 29. Priscilla and her siblings grew up spending summers at Ocean Point and that continued when she married her husband Bob.

Priscilla was a woman of many talents including art. She thoroughly enjoyed drawing, sketching and painting. She established an art studio both at her home on Spruce Shores as well as her home in Boston. She was inspired by the beauty of the Maine Coast and created a colorful series entitled “Painted Prayers.” Priscilla’s work is known in several countries around the world. Priscilla wrote and illustrated a children’s book” The Too Much Love Story” which I understand was inspired by her first grandchild.

Priscilla was completely devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren who she lovingly spoke of so often and spent many fun-filled times with them both here on Linekin Bay and at home in Boston.

Priscilla loved walking along Shore Road with Bob and many a morning I would meet them and was always greeted with her warm and friendly smile. Priscilla was certainly a kind, caring and compassionate individual and one who always took the time to inquire about your well-being and interests.

Our condolences to her husband Bob, her brother Jack Alden and his wife Ellen, her brother Dick Alden and his wife Cilla, her daughter Melissa Albert and husband Dan, her son Jonathan and wife Caroline, and her daughter Michelle Hicks and her husband Cam as well as nine grandchildren.

Donations in Priscilla’s memory may be made to Bigelow Laboratory (bigelowlab.org), The Boothbay Land Trust (bbrlt.org) and Horizons For Homeless Children (horizonschildren.org). A private celebration of her life will be planned.

As you begin to pack up and leave for the season, please remember the Food Pantry.

Enjoy the continued beautiful weather and have a great week!
