Ocean Point Column: Sue Clark’s new book, delicious food and more
Activity has certainly slowed down at the Point; the tennis and pickleball courts are not seeing as much play and the number of boats both at the dock and Grimes are dwindling. I’ve heard many Ocean Pointers comment that there is a definite feel of autumn in the air.
Great news from Sue Clark, author of “Past Images of Ocean Point,” is that she has decided to publish a second book. Sue made her announcement on All things Ocean Point earlier this month and she is inviting those with old pictures or artifacts of Ocean Point who would be willing to share them to get in touch with her.
Among some of the inquiries Sue has received regarding her new book include what types of items might be submitted, if the book can be pre-ordered as well as many other questions. She shares all of this information and more on the Facebook page. Sue has a publishing goal of next spring and you can contact Sue at latitude43designs@hotmail.com. with your inquiries. Sue is also in possession of several copies of her first book for purchase.
I’m sure her new book will be just as informative and fascinating as her first one and will give great insight into life at Ocean Point in the earlier days; we will all be anxiously waiting for it to be published!
“Taste buds dancing” is the expression we use in our household to describe a very delicious meal and this is how I would describe the pasta dinner last Monday evening. We are so thankful to Chef Kelly Farrin and his wife Marcy from the Carriage House Restaurant, Nick Ripley and fiancé Michelle Barter and Pete and Mary Ripley from Riptide Services for an amazing Italian dinner, for your time and talent and generosity, truly delizioso! Assisting them in preparing and serving were David and Pam Ripley, Maddie, Izzy and Gabe Andreasen, Kelsey Woodworth and Phil Haas, thank you to all of them.
Many of you may remember the Maynard Family who summered at Ocean Point for many years in the cottage adjacent to the Hussey-Hogaboom cottage. Sadly, one of their family members has passed away. I have just recently learned of the death of the youngest member of the Maynard family, Perry. Perry, like so many of us, enjoyed all of the beach activities at Hussey beach during the summer including: diving for sand dollars and starfish, swimming to the raft and stretching out on the rocks for some sun. He participated in many of the activities held at the Casino as well. It’s been many years since I’ve seen Perry however I will always have this image of this happy child with a huge smile and warm and kind demeanor. As of this writing, I do not have all of the details of Perry’s service except that the service is private.
Enjoy the last “unofficial” weekend of the summer! If you are leaving please remember to bring non-perishable items to the Food Pantry located at the Congregational Church in town.
Have a great week!
