Ocean Point Column: Speed sign, watching the hurricane and more
Some would argue that last week’s temperatures were oppressive however in my opinion we finally experienced the best weather of the summer!
Activity continues to slow down here as many have pulled their boats out of the water and have returned to their winter residences. Foot and vehicle traffic has also slowed down considerably.
Thanks to Steve Johnson and his roads committee we now have an electronic speed sign on Route 96 as a reminder to slow down.
We are closely watching the track of Hurricane Lee and I understand in preparation for that possibility the docks will be removed this week. The hurricane is expected to strengthen as it moves towards the northeast. Let’s hope it takes a turn out to sea.
I’ve seen and heard that many areas of the region have dead pogies on their shoreline. Fortunately that has not happened on our peninsula. You may recall several years ago we had an invasion of them, not a pleasant experience.
It was so nice to see Betsy Pike O’Keefe here at the Point visiting with her cousin Pete Ripley and wife Mary. Betsy and her family were long time residents of Ocean Point and continue to return each summer with family.
Congratulations to Ocean Pointers Nick Ripley and Ben Kaler who participated in the Boothbay Harbor Tuna Challenge last week. Seventy-five boats were entered in the challenge which was hosted by Carousel Marina.
Congratulations and best wishes to Lara Nordenson and Mikey Windman who were married on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Ocean Point.
Patty Smith and Peter Gardner are hosting the last Porch Party of the season on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. Bring an appetizer to share and your favorite beverage. The rain date is Sunday the 17th.
Our Casino is now closed for the season; many thanks to all who volunteered to open and close during the day and to Paul Taylor who headed up this effort.
If weather permits the pickleball and tennis courts are playable, reserve court time on My Courts and pay guest fees on the OPCT website store.
Have a great week!
