Ocean Point Column: Running and golf results, and more

Mon, 07/19/2021 - 3:00pm

Despite the weather it continues to be extremely busy here at the Point. I’m learning that many here are experiencing a bit of fatigue as a result of entertaining family and participating in activities!

As promised last week, I have the results of both the OP Road Race and the Memorial Golf Tournament.

The overall winner of the 5K with a time of 19:10.3 was Connor Phelan of Rockland, Maine. Ocean Point Road Race winners in their age category include: Luke Driscoll, Jane Dawson, and Abigail Pohl. In all, 22 Ocean Pointers registered to run in the race and they are: Zach Arnpriester, Lyle and Liam Raymond, Kevin and Kyle Rush, Jonathan and Luke Yerrall, Jack Kaler, Kate Dawson, Melanie Slayton, Mary Rush, Sarah Dawson, Patty Gardner, Will Bertrand, Elaine Demers, Don Demers, Patty Gardner, Barb Klein.

Our OP Memorial Golf Tournament results are as follows: Jack Chambers, Steve Heise, Don Favreau and Steve Kelley took first place and the second place team included Mike Anderson, Andy Anderson, Matt Lindley and Bev Holt. Closest to the pin on #7 were Bev Holt and Steve Heise and longest drive winners were Lisa Klumb and Chip Brown. For the first time ever an all-women’s team played in the tournament and included Cookie Dana, Alex Hall, Barb Slayton and Ginna Yerrall. Thanks to David Butterworth for organizing and to Link Brown who remembered those we have lost and of course to all the participants.

Alex Hall and her kitchen crew outdid themselves in serving up delicious pancakes Saturday morning for all to enjoy. Thank you to pancake flippers Maureen and Robert Driscoll and Cara Pond. Thanks to Mark Pond who was on the door and to our very capable and professional wait staff: Addie Cleary, Dossie Boynton, Ciara Rush, Liam Raymond, Luke and Dillon Driscoll, Hadley Hornor, Jack Kaler, Owen Dawson and his cousin Ellis Martino.

The second annual Cornhole Tournament brought out a large number of competitors last Saturday evening with lots of laughs, music, beverages and, of course, fierce competition; We certainly have many skilled cornhole players here at the Point! Congratulations to the winners, Team Driscoll (Maureen and Robert) Maureen was lucky enough to draw her husband’s name from the hat and from what I observed they appear to play a lot of cornhole!

We all gathered at the Casino on Sunday, July 18 to honor a very special Ocean Pointer, Jim Brown. It was a wonderful tribute to a kind, thoughtful and caring individual who truly loved Ocean Point and its residents. Many spoke about their happy memories of Jim and all that he contributed to the community in so many ways. Jim’s children are here vacationing, Bob and his wife Mary and son CJ, Betsy and her husband Bruce and son Matt, Barry and his wife Kim and children Carolyn and McKenna and Bill. Unfortunately due to work constraints Bill’s wife Rhoda and sons Kim and Kai were not able to make the trip. It’s wonderful to see them all together enjoying each other and Ocean Point.

A huge thank you to all who chaired an activity last week Kim Kruger, Beach Glass Workshop; Ginna Yerrall, Kid’s Yard Games; Susan Anderson and Donna Logan, Ladies Bunko; Susan Anderson, Tennis Scramble; Kid’s Trivia Night Maureen Driscoll and Stephanie Kaler; Alex Hall Pancake Breakfast; and the Driscolls, Will Bertrand and Susan Anderson for the Cornhole Tournament.
