Ocean Point Column: Past and upcoming events
To say August is flying by is an understatement! Many residents have or are in the process of leaving to head back for school openings.
If you are fortunate enough to be staying it looks like a great week of weather ahead. We all experienced another very busy week of activities again with many to thank. Thanks to Liz Dawson for organizing S’mores night last Sunday evening.
Taco Tuesday was as delicious as it was last year thanks to the efforts of Ginna Yerrall and her very capable crew: Alicia Raymond, Maureen Driscoll, Kathy Lindley, Kate Dawson, Cara Pond, Holly Cleary and Lisa Rush. Also assisting the kitchen crew were Caroline, Luke and Dylan Driscoll, Kevin and Kyle Rush, Addie Cleary, Liam Raymond and Kate Lindley. Once again it was sellout.
Many participated in the adult Left Right Center planned by Ginna Yerrall the following night; I understand all had an enjoyable time.
Mary Rush and her kitchen staff flipped some incredibly delicious pancakes on Saturday morning for all to enjoy. Her staff included Roger Imhof, Kate Dawson, Ciara Rush, Dani McGonegal and Kristen Nichols. Amy Imhof and Orlando Hall manned the door and the wait staff included: Jack Cleary, James Rush, Everett Kaler, Louie Raymond, Maisie and Seamus Mahoney, Bryson and Emmalyn Nichols, Sophie and Emily Imhof and Ellie and Ryan McGonegal.
In last Sunday’s ball game Team Dawson narrowly defeated Team Arnpriester 13-12. Thank you to Mark and Cara Pond for a wonderful and very tasty ball game grill this past Sunday and to grill assistant Lanny Whitehouse. Sadly it’s the last one of the season.
A very large crown turned out to hear Sue Clark speak about her latest book, “Past Collections of Ocean Point.” Not only was it incredibly informative but also at times quite humorous as Sue inserts bits of personal thoughts regarding some of the subject matter. If you have not had the opportunity to purchase her book I highly recommend doing so, you will not be disappointed.
This week’s activities will include a presentation by Jessica Pierce on underwater photography Tuesday evening beginning at 7.
Our ladies last Porch Party is Wednesday evening and Kathy Lindley and myself will be hosting. Please come and enjoy great appetizers and good conversation with Ocean Point friends. Bring an appetizer to share and your drink of choice.
Tom Cotter will return on Thursday evening at 7 to speak about America’s Greatest Roadtrip, Key West to Deadhorse.
Maureen Driscoll and Stephanie Kaler have put together a great night of trivia for all of the kids at 7 on Friday, Aug. 16.
The Annual Meeting of the Ocean Point Colony Trust will be held Saturday morning, Aug. 17 beginning at 9:30. Please pay your contribution if you have not already done so.
The Rev. Kelly Murphy Mason, Community Minister for Spiritual Dir. Arlington Street Church, Unitarian Universalist, Boston, Massachusetts. will conduct Sunday Services at the Wilson Chapel on Aug. 18 at 9:30. All are welcome.
Our last dinner of the season is the pasta dinner which will take place on Monday evening, Aug. 19 at 6:30. Tickets will be available online. Kelly and Marcy Farrin and Nick Ripley and Michelle Barter are organizing this amazing dinner; don’t miss out!
All of the Fullers are here vacationing, as are many of the Hambletts; it was nice to see many of them enjoying Ocean Point activities.
John and Cindy Alden celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. John’s sister Laurie is here vacationing.
I’m sending birthday wishes to Sam and Owen Bliss and to Ciara Rush who celebrate their special day this week.
Have a great week!
