Ocean Point Column: Painting, trivia, food and more

Tue, 08/13/2019 - 11:45am

We all enjoyed some wonderful events this past week. As promised I am reporting on the Paint Night which the kid’s thoroughly enjoyed and though I’ve not seen the finished product I’ve heard that the collage is great.

What a great time many of us had at the Trivia Night hosted by Mike and Mary Rush. Lots of great music, snacks and very challenging questions that had our heads spinning at times! I guess I’m not ready to be a Jeopardy contestant just yet! Congratulations to team 1877 who took home the prize. In the meantime I’ll continue to sharpen my skills in the off-season with hopes of a win next summer.

Cindy Raposa and Pat Landurand organized a successful Food Sale on Friday with many Ocean Pointers donating their yummy food items for sale. We all enjoyed coffee, donuts and good conversation while we all waited patiently for the raffle to begin. Everett Kaler won the most coveted prize of the event, an enormous jar filled with candy.

Saturday morning Pete, Suzie, Andy and Meghan Hamblett along with Robert Driscoll energetically whipped up pancakes and sausage for the crowd, which received rave reviews by those in attendance. The good news is they will return next summer to share their culinary talents once again.

Our Sunday softball game results Team Jonathan Yerrall defeated Team Kyle Rush 12-7. Dan Anderson, Beckett Slayton, Bob Ripley, Jonathan Yerrall and Kevin Rush hit home runs.

After the game everyone enjoyed the second of our ball game grills with Mark Pond flipping burgers and dogs assisted by daughter Ashley, Ginna Yerrall, Kathy Lindley and Lisa Rush. Thanks to all who contributed a side dish.

Thanks to all who chaired an activity this past week: Jonathan Dawson for the Paint Night, Mike and Mary Rush for the Trivia Night, Cindy Raposa and Pat Landurand for the Food Sale, The Hamblett Family, Driscoll Family and Cara Pond for the Pancake Breakfast along with our very competent waiters and waitresses: Luke and Jonathan Yerrall, Caroline, Luke and Dillon Driscoll, Kate Lindley, Lucy, Wysor, Jack and Seth Ross, Jack Kaler, Luke and Zach Arnpriester. Mark Pond and Ginna Yerrall for the Ball Game Grill and Ginna Yerrall for S’mores night.

Activities this week include The Kid’s Scavenger Hunt on Friday, Aug. 16 at 5 p.m.

The annual meeting of the OPCT will be held on Saturday morning, Aug. 17 beginning at 9:30.

Last year we all enjoyed a wonderful Jamaican meal at the Inn and that event is going to be repeated this summer on the night of Aug. 17. Please call the Inn to make your reservation for the meal. The regular Inn menu will also be offered as well.

A celebration of the life of Roberta Alden will be held at the family home, 28 Grimes Avenue on Saturday, Aug.17 from 1-3 p.m.

A memorial service is scheduled for Ann Kern on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Wilson Chapel beginning at 4 p.m.

It’s busy! Have a great week!
