Ocean Point Column: Loads of events and thank yous
As I write this column on Sunday I’m looking out at an angry ocean and wind swept rain. Some how Mother Nature seems to have forgotten what season we’re in! I’m grateful that we’re not experiencing the floods of western and northern Maine but I do hope for seasonal weather to return soon.
In spite of the weather we had a full week of activities with many people to thank.
Thanks to Ginna Yerrall, Maureen Driscoll and Stephanie Kaler S’mores Night was a big hit.
The Library Committee put on a wonderful book party and supper for the children on Tuesday evening, many thanks to them.
Taco Tuesday was very well attended last Wednesday evening. Ginna Yerrall headed up this fun evening of tacos with all the fixings. The Casino was decorated in a Mexican theme with music that added to the festivities. Thanks to her and her team: Addie Cleary and Sarah Bent, Kate Dawson, Maureen, Caroline and Dillon Driscoll, Stephanie and Jack Kaler, Kathy and Kate Lindley, Cara and Mark Pond, Alicia Raymond, Mary Rush and Lisa, Kevin and Kyle Rush.
Ginna Yerrall organized the Kid’s Bingo last week and Maureen Driscoll and Stephanie Kaler gathered all the kids together for Trivia on Friday, thanks ladies.
Our junior tennis team defeated Juniper Point in their first match of the season 9-8; congratulations to tennis team members Jack and Everett Kaler, Ciara and James Rush, Louis and Liam Raymond, Owen Dawson and Zach Arnpriester. Their next home match is this Wednesday at 3 p.m. vs. the BHYC. Come out and cheer them on.
A large crowd attended our first Pancake Breakfast of the summer on Saturday morning and enjoyed a delicious breakfast and good company. Thank you to the Driscoll Family for once again chairing this event. Cara Pond and Tim Mahoney joined them in the kitchen, thank you for your time and effort and thanks to Mark Pond and all our wonderful waiters and waitresses.
Nine teams turned out for our annual Memorial Golf Tournament early Saturday morning. Congratulations to the winning team of Robert Dana, Dave Finch, Paul Cass and Don Favereau. Closest to the pin for men was Mike Anderson and for the ladies Ginna Yerrall. Longest drive for the men was Chip Brown and for the women Lisa Klumb. Thanks to Mike Anderson for organizing one of the biggest tournaments in recent years.
Our first of the season ball game grill was well attended on Sunday thanks to the Brown Family. It’s so nice to see them all together playing softball and enjoying Ocean Point.
The results of the Sunday Softball game are as follows: Team Dawson defeated Team Houston 8-6. Greg Arnpriester had quite a game hitting a home run, a triple and 2 singles.
I have the results of the OP 5k and Fun Run. There were approximately 90 runners who turned out for the race many of whom were from Ocean Point, congratulations to all of them, unfortunately there are too many to name. Congratulations to the overall winner Marcus Wentworth from Bryant Pond Maine with a time of 18:29. Congratulations to Ocean Pointers Lyle Raymond and Abigail Pohl who each placed first in their division.
