Ocean Point Column: Holiday events, a loss and a New York Yankee

Tue, 12/11/2018 - 7:45am

It’s amazing how quickly the holiday season is passing! The Boothbay region is moving rapidly through all of their planned events of the season — Harbor Lights, the Festival of Trees, Gardens Aglow, the Gingerbread and Dough Ball Spectacular, the Lighted Boat Parade and the fireworks; I hope that many of you were able to enjoy at least one or all of the activities.

It seems the weather is also changing quickly with good amounts of snow, rain, wind and colder temperatures as seen in pictures posted by Julie Brown. I have not seen but have heard that a large tree went down on Shore Road in front of the 1877 house and would guess possibly weather related.

Holidays can often be a joyous and festive time of year for many of us but at the same time a very sad and difficult time as well especially if you have lost a loved one. The Hussey Family experienced a great loss last week in the passing of Marian Hussey on Dec. 4th at the age of 93. Marian and her husband Leroy have been long time residents of Ocean Point enjoying many summers with family and friends at their cottage. Marian and Leroy were engaged on the rocks in front of their home and last summer celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary with family. Our condolences to Marian’s husband Leroy, daughter Ann Hussey Hogaboom, son Richard, sister Elizabeth Sprague of Boothbay and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. Her son Robert predeceased Marian in 2003. A graveside service will be held in the spring 0f 2019 and memorial donations may be made in Marian’s memory to the Ocean Point Colony Trust Preservation Project, P.O. Box 642 East Boothbay, ME 04544 or to the charity of your choice.

Jonathan and Luke Yerrall were recently treated to the “thrill of a lifetime” when the family was recently invited to a private event featuring keynote speaker Aaron Judge, right fielder for the New York Yankees. Judge was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2017 along with several other awards that season. Jonathan and Luke were given the opportunity to ask questions of Judge as well as having a photo opportunity, how exciting for them both!

Enjoy your planned holiday festivities with family and friends!
