Ocean Point Column: Condolences to Landry family

Tue, 10/19/2021 - 8:15am

The count down has begun and the season will “officially” end on Thursday morning when seasonal water is shut off. I’m sure most Ocean Pointers would agree that is was indeed a great season. Although we are sad to leave we realize that the water will come back on in just six short months and gives us all something to look forward to.

Sadly, we have lost another Ocean Pointer; Lou Landry passed away on Sept. 30. We all admired Lou’s talent in creating beautiful bowls in his workshop on Van Horn Road. Throughout his life Lou was recognized and received many awards for his bowls as well as other handcrafted products. Often times on my daily walk around the Point I would pass by the workshop and see Lou busy creating some magnificent new piece. If he happened to catch a glimpse of me he would invite me in to view his latest work.

Lou was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Marilyn who predeceased him as well as a dedicated father and grandfather. Lou leaves his five children, five grandchildren and his first great grandchild. A small memorial service will be held on Nov. 6 beginning at 1 o’clock at his studio on Van Horn Road.

What a pleasant surprise to see John Edgerton and his wife Stacy on the food segment of “207” recently. John and Stacy have appeared on “207” several times creating wonderful recipes with many of the ingredients grown on their farm.

John is a civil engineer by profession and Stacy works in marketing. They both enjoy cooking, gardening and traveling and share their love of these activities on their Instagram account, the Gentleman Farmer.

Congratulations to Danielle Betts on her promotion as President of Knickerbocker Group. Knickerbocker Group is known for their outstanding residential as well as commercial development. Ocean Point was the recipient of their fine work as they constructed our new Casino. I think all will agree that it is a magnificent building thanks to the talent of Knickerbocker.

The OPCT is once again selling a limited number of prints by artist Donald Demers. The print is the scene at Grimes Cove and is signed and numbered by Donald. The price for the print is $550 plus shipping and can be purchased by contacting Lanny Whitehouse at 207-315-6115 or email at leslan@verizon.net. Many of us had the opportunity to purchase the print last summer and in the off-season when I am longing to be back at Ocean Point I find myself staring at this aesthetically pleasing work of art and imaging that I am there.

More information regarding the print will be forthcoming in the next several weeks.

I would like to express to our year-round Ocean Point residents a safe and healthy winter; it won’t be long until we return for another season!

Have a great week!
