Lynn Norgang left the Edgecomb town office with more than she expected during a recent visit. Norgang wanted to license her dog and left with a desire to serve on the select board. Town Clerk Claudia Coffin discussed the town’s need for selectmen with her due to one resignation and another one pending. 

On Dec. 31, former Selectman Dawn Murray resigned due to her ongoing harassment case against another resident. On Jan. 9, Selectman Ted Hugger announced he would resign on April 17. Hugger has bought a home in Damariscotta and will no longer be an Edgecomb resident. 

“After chatting with Coffin about the need for selectmen candidates, I decided I needed to step up and accept the challenge,” Norgang said. Norgang, 69, has lived in Edgecomb for nine years. She previously lived in Damariscotta for 40 years. 

As a town leader, Norgang foresees no major changes. “I love the town just the way it is. I have no agenda,” she said. Norgang has never sought public office. She sees herself as making a “contribution” to the community. “If elected, I think it will be a learning experience which I’m looking forward to,” she said. 

Norgang attended the Jan. 24 selectmen’s meeting to familiarize herself with the format. She also told selectmen about her plans for obtaining 25 signatures on her nomination papers. “I’m going to knock on doors. I will start on Cross Point Road with people I know and take it from there,” she said. 

Nomination papers are available on Jan. 27 and due March 6. Edgecomb will hold a special election from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 in the town hall.
