‘Night of the Living Rez’ author speaks on Monhegan
The Monhegan Memorial Library is pleased to welcome Morgan Talty in our fifth annual Distinguished Writers Series on Monhegan Island. Winner of several prizes including the National Book Critics John Leonard Prize, his debut work “Night of the Living Rez” is a series of connected stories about life on the Penobscot Indian Island Reservation. Talty has been heralded for his “electric and captivating voice,” a part of the “canon of great Native American Literature.” (The New York Times).
On Saturday, Aug. 12, Talty will deliver a keynote address followed by a book signing in the Monhegan Community Church (suggested donation $20 or pay what you can). On Sunday, Aug. 13, he will hold a Writer’s Talk at 10 a.m. in the Monhegan Memorial Library (advance registration required), 1 Library Lane.
The Distinguished Writers Series was founded in 2016 and has since hosted Richard Blanco, Paul Doiron, Christina Baker Kline and Lois Lowry. Donations to support the continuation of the Series can be made by visiting www.monheganlibrary.com.
