News and notes from the Community Center
On Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon, we are thrilled to have Bethany Schmidt, the tech guru on loan from the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, to help anyone who would like with their computer, laptop, iPad, cell phone issues. This week is also special. Bethany will be accompanied by Hannah Corkum, the Community Navigator from the Community Resource Council (CRC). She is a wealth of local information. We may also have the pleasure of having Mary Ellen Barnes, retired head of Lincoln County Planning Commission. She now represents Coastal Maine Regional Broadband with information about internet connectivity and broadband in your home.
Also, Kitty Hartford reminds us that the next monthly meeting of the Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) group will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 1:15 p.m, here. This group welcomes everyone who is facing any type of visual loss, whether dealing with pesky floaters (Oh dear! Those aren't fruit flies!), that “swimmy” feeling while adjusting to bifocals, the reluctance to have surgery or eye injections, or gracefully surrendering the car keys. This will be a discussion meeting where the members may share some of their trials and triumphs, offer progress reports, or read poems or articles that are pertinent and uplifting. Drivers and caregivers are always invited to attend these meetings. For more information, please call Joan Stark at 633-2498 or Mollie Moore at 633-3810.
Wow Hoo! Bridge will begin the first Friday after Labor Day – Sept. 6! We would love to have a few more players sign up. If you or someone you know who might be looking for a game, please stop by or call The Community Center – 633-9876 to help get this wonderfully challenging card game going once again. Our own Jerry Homer, and Boothbay Register’s contributing writer, Jane Carpenter, are here to help.
Also, there has been a request to reorganize art classes. Any kind of art – painting (water/acrylics/oil) on canvas, paper, glass, etc. Please call or stop by. 633-9876. We’d love to rejuvenate this wonderful craft.
Last, but certainly not least, fresh vegetables arrive every Friday morning during the summertime. The veggies are very generously donated by Town Village Foodbank Farm and Veggies to Table. Get your bag ready to bring over on Friday mornings until 2 p.m. during the summer!
