As we go about our daily lives, we are constantly told how wonderful it is to have the Community Center here for the people who live year-round in Edgecomb, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, East Boothbay, Southport, and the islands. We are reminded that we provide a much-needed service for the year-round residents, as well as visitors and guests. None of us are paid — we are all volunteers — working to keep the place clean and inviting, greeting each person who walks in the door, brainstorming activities that will enhance the lives of our fellow citizens, at the same time enriching our own lives by the experience.

From time-to-time our volunteer numbers decline, for very good and unavoidable reasons. Now is one of those times. We need your help in filling the gaps in our volunteer schedule — but more importantly, we invite you to join us in this very important work. Please come in and talk with one of us about the opportunity to do some good and have some fun.

Don’t forget that there is one more opportunity to win a feast of lobsters — our third drawing on Aug. 30 — just in time for Labor Day weekend. Tickets are available at the center and from our Lobster Ladies and other volunteers whom you will see around town. We are so grateful to the lobstermen who have so generously donated part of their catch to our benefit.
