National Theatre's 'The Fifth Step' at Lincoln Theater
The acclaimed National Theatre Live production of “The Fifth Step” is coming to Lincoln Theater Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13. Broadcasts from the National Theatre bring the best of British performances to cinemas across the globe, including your own community living room. And their incredible up closes and personal footage means you always have the best seat in the house!
“The Fifth Step,” recorded live in London’s West End, is a provocative, darkly comic two person show starring Olivier Award-winner Jack Lowden (Dunkirk, Slow Horses) alongside Emmy and BAFTA winner Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, The Responder, PBS’ Sherlock). Together they deliver what critics have called “raw, excruciating and alarmingly funny” performances exploring addiction, trust, and the fragile bonds formed in recovery.
The story follows James, a longtime participant in Alcoholics Anonymous, who becomes a sponsor to Luka, a newcomer to the 12-Step program. Over cups of black coffee, the two men share stories and build a tentative friendship grounded in their shared struggle. But as Luka approaches the fifth step — the searching moral inventory and confession central to recovery — unsettling truths surface, threatening both men’s sobriety and the trust they have built. Blending sharp humor with emotional intensity, critics have praised it as “superb,” and “laugh-out-loud funny.”
And Lincoln Theater is pleased to announce the upcoming shows just booked into the summer!
National Theatre Live continues with a slate of celebrated productions: due to popular demand, an encore presentation of “The Audience,” starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II will screen April 23 and 24; Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) feature in a five-star, triumphantly acclaimed new production of Arthur Miller’s classic "All My Sons" playing June 4 and 5; in “The Playboy of the Western World,” Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) joins Éanna Hardwicke and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in John Millington Synge’s riveting play of youth and self-discovery, playing June 25 and 26; and a striking new staging of Christopher Hampton’s celebrated adaptation of the classic novel, “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” hit the big screen July 23 and 24.
