Music, dancing, silent auction and more at Wiscasset Library September fundraiser

For the fourth year, Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library are planning a festive “Bands for Books” evening to raise funds for the library. This year’s event takes place Sunday, September 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at picturesque Seafield Farm in Wiscasset and features the Salty Dogs, a Maine musical group that will provide entertainment for the evening.

Guests can dance to the music, imbibe at a cash bar, and satisfy their hunger with heavy hors d’oeuvres donated by Sarah’s Cafe. There will be a silent auction for a museum quality handmade replica by the D.R. Dimes company of an 18th century Windsor writing desk valued at $2,400. In addition there will be twelve raffle items including a two hour sail on the Sheepscot River on a double-masted sailboat, an airplane ride over mid-coast Maine, a metal sculpture, a case of wine, a picnic basket filled to the brim with goodies, and a flower arrangement delivered to your door once a month for four months.

Leavitt and Parris of Portland and Marianmade Farm of Wiscasset will provide a large tent under which many of the festivities will take place. Three area banks with branches in Wiscasset, First National, Camden National and First Federal Savings, are sponsoring the event along with Ames Hardware, Levitt and Parris and Ideal PortaJohns. Other sponsors include Jenn Spaur and Katherine Martin-Savage.

Tickets for the event are $20 ahead of time and $25 at the event itself. Tickets can be bought at the library at 21 High Street in Wiscasset, or purchased from event committee members including Michelle Peele, Kate Curran, Cynthia Davis, Judy Flanagan, Katherine Martin-Savage, Wendy Ross, Jenn Spaur, Crissy Swartz, and Linda Winterberg. For more information call event committee chair Michelle Peele after 5 p.m. on 207-687-8212

The September party is the Friends of the Library’s largest event of the year and all of the proceeds go to much needed projects to update the Wiscasset Library building, such as new lighting and carpeting. So, mark your calendars, get ready to have some fun, and take home some wonderful items while helping the library.
