Modified moves and maximum results for older adults

Across the country, a growing number of YMCAs are offering Enhance®Fitness, an evidence-based group exercise program for older adults that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals (particularly those with arthritis) to stay active throughout their life.

The Boothbay Region YMCA is offering Enhance®Fitness on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. in the Coastal Club Room. The 16-week evidenced based class is $40 for all participants.

Program structure:

  • A 5-minute warm-up to get the blood flowing to the muscles
  • A 20-minute aerobics workout that gets participants moving or a walking workout to lively music that the class chooses
  • A 5-minute cool-down
  • A 20-minute strength training workout with soft ankle and wrist weights (0 up to 20 pounds)
  • A 10-minute stretching workout to keep the muscles flexible
