Name: Mike Tomacelli

Address: 52 Burnham Cove Road, Boothbay

Occupation: Business owner- MidCoast Machine

Education: Graduated from Needham High School in Needham, Massachusetts; Wentworth Institute in Boston, Massachusetts; bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

Board, committees: Boothbay Planning Board for five years until 2017, selectman 2017-2020, participated in planning board workshops for 3 ½ years through 2020. The primary objective of this effort was to incorporate the goals and objectives of the newly approved comprehensive plan. I’ve also been participating in the joint Broadband Committee meetings with Boothbay Harbor.

Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?

I believe the future of this town depends on continued economic development, the creation of more year round employment opportunities and affordable housing. Hopefully, this direction will encourage young families to remain or relocate into this area which should enhance school enrollment which is currently in decline. Also, I believe the recent COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for reliable broadband service. Boothbay is currently serviced by three broadband providers – some with aging infrastructure and others with more modern technology such as fiber optic. Since our future will probably change with the recent pandemic, the need for faster, more reliable and dependable broadband service will become increasingly more important to us every day. Working from home to conduct business as well as telemedicine are two important reasons why we need to move in a direction that provides our community as well as the Boothbay Region with reliable high speed broadband.

Any other thoughts on why you are running or what youcan bring to the office?

I would like to continue to bring over 30 years of business experience and problem solving skills to town government. Additionally, maintaining a balance between small town character and future development are both important to this community. My ability to listen, communicate and apply common sense are strengths I will continue to bring to the town as a member of the board of selectmen.
