Michel Droge will be the first guest of the 2019-20 season of Talking Art in Maine, Intimate Conversations.  Michel will join host, Jane Dahmen, on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater, Damariscotta to have a one-on-one conversation about her process and work.

Droge received a BA from Oberlin College in 1980 and an MFA from Maine College of Art in 2010. As a painter, printmaker and educator, Droge engages with the environment and the human condition in an era of uncertainty.  Much of the work is based on extensive scientific research and deals directly with climate change and local Maine conservation efforts while at the same time being sublimely beautiful. Making emotional, mystical, poetic works of art whether or not the scientific basis behind the works are evident is Droge’s intent.

Droge is the recipient of a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA grant in 2010 and two Maine Arts Commission Grants in 2011 and 2016.  They have been awarded fellowships and residencies at the Tides Institute, The Joseph Fiore Foundation/Maine Farmland Trust, the Stephen Pace House and the Saltonstall Foundation as well as many others.

Her work has been included in national and international exhibitions. Bates College Art Museum, the Cue Art Foundation, New York City, the ICA at MECA in Portland, Gould Academy, Boston University and Brandeis University have shown their work. Droge is represented by the Portland Art Gallery on 154 Middle St. in Portland.

Host, artist Jane Dahmen, is a contemporary realist who lives and works in Newcastle. Her recent landscapes explore the forests and coastal regions of mid coast Maine and have been shown in solo and group shows in the U.S and abroad. Prints and posters of her paintings have been widely distributed around the world by UNICEF and Grafique de France of Paris, France.  One of her paintings hung in the White House during George HW and Barbara Bush’s tenure. She shows her work in Maine at the Portland Art Gallery on 154 Middle St. in Portland.

Talking Art in Maine, Intimate Conversations is a free series presented in partnership with Horch Roofing and Maine Home+Design.
