Meeting on marijuana issue April 26
The town of Boothbay Harbor, on behalf of the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board, is sponsoring a special public meeting on the topic of marijuana legalization on Wednesday, April 26. The meeting will be held at the YMCA at 6 p.m. The boards are inviting all residents of the greater Boothbay Harbor region to come and learn about the new law which was passed in the state of Maine this past November. The boards are particularly interested in gathering feedback from Boothbay Harbor residents in order to assist with the development of new marijuana related zoning ordinances for the town of Boothbay Harbor.
Edward Kelleher, an attorney with the Drummond Woodsum law firm in Portland, Maine who specializes in this field, will be the guest speaker. He will provide an update on how the state legislature has been dealing with the Marijuana Legalization Act. Kelleher will explain the five aspects of the law which towns need to consider including marijuana: cultivation, manufacturing, testing, retail stores and social clubs. He will provide some insight into key issues for towns to consider such as what it may mean for: your health; youth; schools; law enforcement; public safety and social issues which towns should consider when creating new zoning ordinances.
Everyone is welcome to attend this free presentation. Kelleher will be available to answer questions from the public. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m at the YMCA on April 26.
