McKown and Juniper Points: Annual meeting, departures, piano anyone?
Maybe we won’t get tricked again this week into thinking there’s going to be sunshine and then finding ourselves in fog again.
Come rain or shine, the Annual Meeting takes place on Saturday morning, beginning at 9 with coffee and socializing with the meeting itself at 9:30. There’s a lot on the agenda so please read the email this week that includes committee reports. It will save time at the meeting to not repeat information.
Because of the Annual Meeting this Saturday morning and the Breakfast at the Courts next Saturday, there will be no yoga with Romee at the Community House the next two weeks. You can still get your exercise fix on Thursdays at 5 p.m. with Joan.
Storytelling night last week was well attended by about 20 people. Carey Swope led a discussion of the Reed, Welch and Hodgdon families; the people who lived here in the 1800s to early 1900s. These were the foundational families of what would become JPVIS. It sparked many question and a lively discussion of how we all came to be here.
This from Ann Swope: Sad to say, for some, summer vacation is already over. Last Friday, Robert Moser hosted a farewell dinner for Sonia Gilkey and Frouwkje and Stephan Pagani who headed home the next day. It was a feast, with a fabulous Portuguese fish dish (chef Robert) and Jo and Harry Moser providing lobsters and of course, in Barbara Racy’s memory, blueberry pie and ice cream. Ann and Carey Swope, Panos Stevenson and A.J.Racy completed the guest list. An evening filled with stories, laughter and a collective sense of gratitude for the legacy of Peggy Tomkinson’s legendary hospitality.
Dave has sent in the following report from the tennis courts: Our Taco-Tequila-Triples night on Thursday night was a huge success! Thanks to over 30 people for making it such a fun evening at the courts! Congratulations to our winning team, “Watch Out” with a narrow victory over “Cocktail Crew.” We are so appreciative of Sally Barter, Noelle Shearman, and the other chefs for contributing a delicious spread.
The Junior Team had a blast last Friday, traveling to Christmas Cove for a match via three boats (Swan, Kiefer, Lewis). They played a couple hours of competitive tennis and showed excellent sportsmanship!
The weather is looking promising for the upcoming week as we get ready for JPVIS Tournaments.
On a totally different note, does anyone have an unused piano or know of one? Let me or Holly Barnes know. The one in the Community House has played its last tune and its innards (I think they’re called hammers) were removed for diagnosis and have been declared beyond repair. To tide us over, there is a keyboard at the Community House for those who know how to play and would like to practice. This is a short term fix until we can find the real thing.
That’s it for this week. Please send your news to annedooley@mindspring.com.
