Masonic scholarships awarded

On Tuesday June 4, the Boothbay Region High School graduating class once again attended a cookout hosted by area Masonic lodges and the Eastern Star. This is an annual event giving the hosts an opportunity to express how proud we are of their accomplishments. It also serves as a venue to award scholarships to selected members of the class. Most often the recipients have some family Masonic affiliation and applications are handled by the guidance office.

This year a total of seven scholarships were presented in amounts ranging from $500 to $2,500. The funds for these scholarships come from a variety of sources. Some are the result of behests of estates belong to Brothers who have passed. Others come from events such as lemonade sale and rummage sales with the latest event being Bayview Lodge #196 voluntary “toll booth” on June 1. That event alone raised over $1,600, allowing Bayview to give one more deserving senior a helping hand than was anticipated.

In addition to scholarships totaling $11,500 being presented to the seniors, Bayview Lodge #196 presented to Allan Crocker a check for $600 for Project Graduation.

A thank you is extended to not only the Brothers and Sisters who participate in raising money but to all of you who cheerfully contribute to the various efforts when you see them.
