MASN Howard Carter receives Navy honor

    Navy Master-at-Arms Seaman (MASN) Howard Carter of Boothbay Harbor was selected from a crew of nearly 5,000 sailors as USS Ronald Reagan’s “Sailor of the Day” on July 29, 2021.

    In a letter received by his father Matthew Carter of Boothbay Harbor from from F.C. Goldhammer, Captain, U.S. Navy, Goldhammer wrote: “This an outstanding accomplishment in recognition of his service to the ship and our country.

    “We have selected MASN Carter based on his dedication to his shipmates and this ship, as well as motivation and expertise. We are grateful to have him onboard America’s Flagship and the Navy’s only forward deployed aircraft carrier, and I have no doubt that he will continue to be a role model and source of inspiration for others to follow. I wish your son continued success throughout his career in the U.S. Navy, and I hope that you are as proud of his accomplishments as we are.”

    Matthew Carter said his son’s ship and crew was recently involved the withdrawal of troops out of Afghanistan. 

    Howard Carter is a 2015 graduate of Boothbay Region High School. USS Ronald Reagan is based in Japan.
