Marshall “Howard” Kramer, 81, passed away April 30, 2020.

Born Aug. 27, 1938 in the Bronx, New York, Howard led an amazing life as a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. He treasured his many strong friendships in Virginia, Maine, and around the world. He was a deeply principled, intelligent, curious man with a twisty sense of humor, and he will leave an enduring mark on those who knew him.

After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he met his wife Lois, he received a master’s degree from NYU. After marrying, they lived Seattle before moving to Arlington, Virginia, where he served two years as a lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps before starting successful career as a systems engineer at IBM.

For the past 20 years, he followed his many passions. A master of Tai Chi, you could often findf Howard in the courtyard practicing his routines. He taught several classes in Tai Chi but equally loved being a student of the art. He volunteered at the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress cataloging and preserving music, posters, letters, and recorded interviews. In summertime, Howard enjoyed volunteering at the Boothbay Region Land Trust in Maine.

Howard is survived by Lois, his wife of 58 years; Rob, Jeff and Jon, his three sons; and Carol, his sister.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Howard Kramer to: Boothbay Region Land Trust, 60 Samoset Road, P.O. Box 183, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 https://bbrlt.org/
