After allegedly attacking a woman outside her home with a Taser while wearing a ski mask, a Nobleboro man has been indicted on four felony charges by the Lincoln County Grand Jury.

Scott Gifford, 52, was indicted on one count of Class A aggravated assault, Class B criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Class B reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and Class C assault on Aug. 27 in Damariscotta.

On Aug. 27, Damariscotta Police Officer Jason Warlick was dispatched to a Damariscotta business to take a report from a woman who said she had been attacked.

The woman claimed that a masked man had attacked her at her residence. She reported that the man shoved her down and attempted to use a hand-held Taser on her.

During the assault, the victim reportedly lost a tooth while fighting back. Eventually, the attacker ran away.

The victim claimed the attacker was wearing a ski mask, but she reported that she knew the attacker to be Scott Gifford based on “his eyes and physical appearance” according to the police report.

Police searched the scene and found footprints leading away from the house, as well as a ski mask and pieces of a Taser on the ground.

When the police went to his residence in Nobleboro, they found Gifford allegedly covered in sweat and Gifford’s shoes covered in mud.

Gifford reportedly admitted during an interview that he attacked the woman and told the police where he threw the Taser and hid the clothes he wore during the attack.

Gifford also reportedly said he knew when the victim would be home, and he allegedly hid in the bushes outside her house before attacking her. He was arrested after the interview.

Gifford was ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

If convicted, Gifford could face up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine for the Class A crime of aggravated assault; 10 years and up to a $20,000 fine for the Class B crimes and up to five years and $5,000 for the Class C crime.
