‘Maine-ly Sea and Land’: New works by Bob McKay

Mon, 07/31/2017 - 8:30am

Story Location:
53 Townsend Avenue
Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538
United States

Some things old and some things new.  A collection of oil paints reflecting Maine’s seafaring past and the woodland country side by Boothbay Harbor artist Bob McKay. The exhibit will run through the month of August.

McKay’s artistic skills give him the ability to capture light and the mood of the moment. Whether it’s landscape or an image of the working waterfront, he is able to create a sense that the viewer is included in the painting. Sometimes he will incorporate words or a statement relating to his work, which further engages the viewer with the painting.

After working as an art director in New York’s advertising and publishing companies, he moved to Boothbay Harbor to paint the endless sources of inspiration that  Maine offers.

If you have the chance to visit the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor, on McKown Point Road,  check out the 40-foot by 17-foot mural that McKay created for the aquarium. McKay is also the author-illustrator of the children’s book, “Percival the Lighthouse Mouse” — and that lighthouse just happens to be on Burnt Island.

Come and meet Bob McKay at the artist’s reception and open house  on (First) Friday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.  The gallery is located at 53 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor.
