Mailbox theft
Dear Editor:
Recently I replaced my mailbox with a locking one, due to theft of some of my mail. From approximately July through December, our bank statements and any and all correspondence were not received in the mail. I did not realize this for a couple of months and then had to request copies from the local bank branch. This was very embarrassing as two checks I had written were returned for insufficient funds, both to local businesses and I was not aware of this. Oddly enough, I did receive other mail, such as utility bills and notices, also personal mail. Not sure if this was a scammer or someone local with whom I may have had, unknowingly, an issue.
Many people do not realize that interfering with delivery of mail, stealing or destroying someone else's mail or even inserting flyers into a mailbox is a federal offense. Once your mailbox is out, whether on your house or on the road, it is the property of the Postal Service.
