Lunch and Learn
Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center in Damariscotta will host its Wednesday Lunch and Learn program on September 26. Following the luncheon, and as a prelude to the Coastal Community Center’s “There’s No Place Like Home 2012” Aging in Place Symposium on September 27, Spectrum Generations CEO and President Gerard Queally will discuss Spectrum’s perspectives on aging in place.
Queally will also discuss Spectrum’s commitment to meet the broad range of needs of central Mainers, which includes Lincoln County’s older and disabled adults, through information sharing, coaching and planning.
Gerry will share how Spectrum Generations, your Central Maine Area Agency on Aging, is developing programs and services designed to enable older adults and disabled individuals to remain safely in their own homes, ensuring a high quality of life for as long as possible through the provision of home and community based services, including support for family care givers.
Spectrum Generations, the Central Maine Area Agency on Aging, began the development of its 2012-2016 Area Plan with the premise that the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level enables a person to live a more physically and socially healthy life.
Maine is the oldest state in the nation.
In 2013 it is estimated that 17.81 percent of central Maine’s population will be over 65 years of age and 41.54 percent will be over 55 years of age; these percentages are expected to grow to 20.48 percent and 43.64 percent respectively by the year 2018.
With this expected growth in central Maine’s aging population, Spectrum Generations is committed to offering health, social, educational and other life satisfaction options through our network of seven community centers, our Elders One and toll free telephone assistance line, our adult day care and our in-home assistance service to the homebound.
We believe older and disabled individuals have a right to be in charge of their lives with as many options as possible, regardless of their age or disability. We understand that caregivers have a special need for information and support as they strive to keep their older loved ones at home. Advocacy for the rights of older individuals and caregivers is part of everything we do.
Advanced luncheon reservations are required. Call 563-1363 by noon on Monday, Sept. 24 to make your luncheon reservation and entrée selection (haddock chowder or coq au vin).
For those over 60 years of age the suggested donation is $4 per person. All others are $6 per person.
