Lincoln County Dental Inc. is creating smiles again

Wed, 09/16/2020 - 7:45am

Just like many of you who waited for the kickoff of the NFL season this past week, we are anxiously awaiting the opening day of our new dental practice!! We want to help make Lincoln County one of the best places to live, raise a family and experience job success. A smile is the first thing we often notice about a person. We will improve smiles and create better days for many through the provision of comprehensive dental care. We welcome all residents of Lincoln County and look forward to seeing you once we open our doors again.

Lincoln County Dental Inc. (LCD) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) established in 2011 by a group of volunteer dental professionals, healthcare providers and members of the community. The group convened to address the lack of low-income dental services for people who live in Lincoln County. This dedicated group opened a dental clinic to provide treatment for pain and infection for low income adults. The clinic began operations with six (6) volunteer dentists, one (1) volunteer denturist, hygienists, and dental assistants. Through the generosity of volunteers, donors and funders, we created access for many individuals who would have otherwise been unable to obtain dental care. We are excited to expand and provide more services to a greater number of individuals soon.

In 2016, we had a catastrophic flood and were forced to close our doors. Lincoln County Dental is committed to our mission to provide access to dental care in our region. We were able to purchase the building at 93 Churchill Street in Wiscasset and are in the process of raising the funds necessary to become fully operational. We have completed our initial building renovations and have four treatment rooms available for patients. We are grateful to CHIP, Inc. (Community Housing Improvement Project) for their efforts providing renovations to the building. Their generosity allowed Lincoln County Dental, Inc. to minimize construction expenses and prioritize other necessary purchases.

Did you know that dental related visits to the emergency department for dental pain do not address the underlying issue? Oral health is a critical component of our overall health and wellness. Once open, Lincoln County Dental will work with local healthcare providers to coordinate necessary treatment and lower the need for emergency dental visits.

Earlier this summer, we hired Dr. Scott Kingsley. Dr. Kingsley and the clinical team at Lincoln County Dental look forward to providing a dental home and to partnering with patients to improve their health and wellbeing.

The greatest challenge a nonprofit organization faces is having the funds available to remain operational. If you received a donor request recently in your mailbox, we hope that you saw it. We need financial assistance from more donors who generously support our mission and want to help us ensure that high quality, comprehensive dental care is available for everyone.

On behalf of the board of directors, we are deeply grateful for the support of our community, funders and donors who make financial contributions. Together, we will improve the oral health of our communities one smile at a time.
