Library reopens at renovated Oak Street location
Frantic work over the past two weeks was able to get everything in order for our re-opening on June 24th. Three cheers to all the Library volunteers that are chipped in to get make it possible. From June 9th through the 23rd, Library volunteers, along with staff and trustees, worked, with barely time out to go home and sleep, to move from the temporary location on Townsend Avenue and re-shelve the collection.
Particular thanks goes out to Nancy and Ken Hanson, Bonnie Ginger, and Helen McBreaty who weeded and re-shelved the entire fiction collection, Sharon Pulkkinen and Sue Kreahling who transcribed and boxed hundreds of titles we weeded from the collection, Sue Woolson who re-shelved the entire young adult and media collections, Beth Moss and Rob and Liz Lussier who helped re-shelve many children’s books, members of the local Coast Guard, Chuck House and the young visitors from Haiti (members of the Hope Haitian Choir) who helped carry very heavy cartons of books to the second floor, Barbara Wilson, Cindy Holton and Marge Creaser who helped weed and re-shelve much of the non-fiction collection, and Tim Utley who spruced up the portico entrance and installed flower boxes. I will have missed some, which I apologize for, because every little bit has helped to make our move back a success.
A very special thank you goes to Joyce Wanger who has been working for the past month in a temporary capacity to help get us through a period when we have been short staffed. A professionally trained librarian, Joyce has been an invaluable assistance in the transition. Also, we are happy to announce the hiring of Lisa Arsenault as our new head of the Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Department. Lisa will begin on June 24th…welcome Lisa!
All this behind the scenes effort went into making our reopening a success. We hope you think it’s all worthwhile.
Our official re-opening ceremony will be on Saturday, June 28th, when we say thank you to everyone who made the renovation possible. Please check the Library’s website for more information: www..bmpl.lib.me.us.
Finally, we would like to remind everyone that Books-in-Boothbay is coming on July 12th at the Railway Village, beginning at 9 a.m. This is our 10th anniversary! Watch for more detail in upcoming posts here. See you there, and, as always, at the Library!
