Letter from the General Manager
Dear Editor:
Spring is quickly approaching, and I’m proud to say that this past winter has been one of meaningful progress and steady momentum for our shipyard. Despite harsh temperatures and significant snowfall, our team’s dedication and determination have put us in an excellent position as we enter the busiest months of the year.
I’m pleased to report that projects—large and small—are on track for on-time delivery. In this business, that’s something I’m always careful about claiming, but in this case I have great confidence in our team and our ability to finish strong.
In recent years we’ve seen encouraging growth on our 700-ton railway. Significant vessels such as Eleanor, Eros, and Brig Niagara reinforce our role as a trusted partner for complex, high-profile vessels operating under strict timelines and demanding scopes of work. These refits are a testament not only to the capabilities of our facility, but more importantly to the skill, dedication, and craftsmanship of our team—professionals who make even the most intimidating projects look routine.
In 2025, we surpassed the 100-customer mark for storage and transient service—an important milestone that reflects both increasing demand and the trust our customers place in us. We have expanded our staff to ensure that as our workload grows, our standards for quality, safety, and customer service remain uncompromised.
Continued investment in infrastructure will shape the year to come as we pursue facility improvements and expansion projects designed to support our team, serve our customers, and strengthen the long-term vitality of this working waterfront.
Many of you may have noticed the name Sample’s Shipyard appearing more frequently in recent months. While Bristol Marine remains our parent company, one of its guiding principles is honoring the heritage and traditions that define each of its shipyard locations. For generations, local families have been connected to this yard—through boats built or serviced here, or through family members who worked along this waterfront. Embracing the historic name Sample’s Shipyard is our way of celebrating and preserving that legacy.
None of this progress happens without the dedication of our crew and the continued support of our customers and community. Thank you for being part of this journey.
I hope you’ll join us at our Open House on March 19 at 4 p.m. when we’ll open our shops to share what has kept us busy through the winter months and discuss several initiatives ahead.
