Lester Arthur Barter Jr., 55, passed away peacefully at Mid Coast Hospital on April 22, 2020, after a long illness.

Lester was born Dec. 29, 1964, to Lester A. Barter Sr., and Georgia M. Blackman (now Leeman) in Falmouth, Massachusetts, where they lived a short time until moving back to the Boothbay region in 1966.

Throughout childhood, Lester attended Boothbay schools and had many friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling with his father. Later, he would spend hours fishing with his cousins John Blackman and Leo Barter. He was never far away from nature.

Early adulthood took Lester on many travels between Maine and California, where he worked odd jobs, and met his lifelong partner, Bridgett Clark. Together they traveled back to Maine and had two daughters, Brittany and Winona, who became the light of Lester’s life. He taught Brittany how to fish and they enjoyed being outdoors together, alone or with friends and family. In between, Lester would spend hours with Brittany and Winona, assembling model classic cars, and playing video games. In spite of health problems later in his life, Lester was a loving and attentive father, who adored his girls with all his heart.

Lester was predeceased by his partner of 24 years, Bridgett Clark, in 2018; by his father, Lester Sr., in 1990; and his maternal grandmother, Winona W. Blackman, in 1998.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Brittany and Winona, both of Boothbay; his immediate family — mother, Georgia M. Leeman and stepfather Mark Leeman of Boothbay Harbor; sister, Dianne Snow and her husband Barry of Bedford, Texas; nephew, Garreth Burnham of Edgecomb; sister, Bette Landry and her husband Tom of Boothbay; brother, Michael Barter and his wife Kim of Boothbay Harbor; half-brother, Robert Reed of Boothbay; stepbrothers, Chris, Garret, and Brett Leeman, all of the Boothbay region. He also leaves a bazillion aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Lester’s quick wit and willingness to share a good joke or a story will never be forgotten. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A gathering in Lester’s memory will be held at a later date, sometime in July.
