A new season of documentaries from Exhibition on Screen (EOS) is coming to Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, beginning Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. celebrating the singular Leonardo Da Vinci.

Working with top international museums and galleries, Exhibition on Screen creates films which offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best loved art accompanied by insights from the world’s leading historians and arts critics. Led by multi-award winning Executive Producer & Director Phil Grabsky, and award-winning director David Bickerstaff, these cinema films are a unique offering of productions from experienced film-makers in and about galleries and museums around the world and shown on the big screen at Lincoln Theater

Directed by Phil Grabsky, the film presents every single attributed painting from Leonardo Davinci, the world’s favorite artist, in Ultra HD quality, as never seen before on the big screen. Key works include The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Lady with an Ermine, Ginevra de’ Benci, Madonna Litta, Virgin of the Rocks, and more than a dozen others. This film also looks afresh at Leonardo’s life – his inventiveness, his sculptural skills, his military foresight and his ability to navigate the treacherous politics of the day – through the prism of his art. To be released on the 500th anniversary of his death, this is the definitive film about Leonardo: the first to truly tell the whole story.

Continuing in 2020, screening at 1 p.m.: Saturday, March 21  experience the self-portraits of Lucian Freud for the first time in history from the Royal Academy of Arts in London, in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, in “Lucian Freud: A Self Portrait.” The exhibition will display more than 50 paintings, prints and drawings in which this modern master of British art turned his unflinching eye firmly on himself. One of the most celebrated painters of our time, Lucian Freud is also one of very few 20th-century artists who portrayed themselves with such consistency.

On Sunday, April 5, “Easter in Art” explores the different ways artists have depicted the Easter story through the ages and thus depicts the history of us all. From the triumphant to the savage, the ethereal to the tactile, some of western civilization’s greatest artworks focus on this pivotal moment.

Closing out the season, on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m., the highly engaging film “Frida Kahlo” takes us on a journey through the life of one of the most prevalent female icons. Using cinema to take an up-close and intimate look at her works we examine how great an artist she can be considered. Displaying a treasure trove of color and a feast of vibrancy on screen, this personal and intimate film offers privileged access to her works and highlights the source of her feverish creativity, her resilience and her unmatched lust for life, men, women, politics and her cultural heritage.

Come to Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater and experience these films that will leave you with a unique record of a great exhibition and in-depth account of the artists and their period. Tickets are $15/adult, $13/member, and $5/youth 18 and under and are available at the door one hour prior to screening.
