Knickerbocker Lake Association holds annual meeting
The Knickerbocker Lake Association held its annual meeting on Monday, Aug. 4 at the McEvoy Lodge, Camp Knickerbocker, Boothbay.
The speaker, Rebecca Jacobs of Knox-Lincoln Conservation District, gave an informational talk with accompanying slide show on "Buffer Zones," which are essential to protecting our valuable water source. She is available to do site inspections in order to protect soil and water sources.
Discussion included a question and answer period with Sue Mello and Jon Ziegra of the Boothbay Region Water District regarding a possible cooperative project between the West Harbor Pond Watershed Association, as represented by WHPWA president Leslie Volpe, and the Water District to formally protect our watershed.
As the Boothbay Comprehensive Plan committee begins to look at possible changes to the zoning ordinances and the recognition that the institutional and economic well being of the peninsula depend on quality water resources, it is of utmost importance that the watershed be well protected. Toward that end, the Water District and concerned citizens in the lake and pond associations are exploring ways to work together for the future.
