Kings of the Court March 2024

Mon, 03/11/2024 - 3:30pm

    Dear Editor:

This past weekend the Boothbay Region Travel Basketball program hosted what we hope to become an annual tradition, the “Kings Of The Court” junior high boys basketball tournament. Teams competing included Boothbay, Brunswick, Camden Hills, Gardiner, Lincoln Academy, Medomak Valley, Mt. Ararat, and Wiscasset. The 8-team field was divided into two pools with each team playing three games. Two pool winners then advanced to a final championship game. In the championship, Brunswick overcame a valiant effort from Lincoln Academy, winning 63-52 to become the Kings Of The Court!

Brunswick’s Lennox Moore was named the tourney MVP. The athletic post player was a major factor on both sides of the ball, and the centerpiece of the Dragons’ offense. Moore was dominant on the boards throughout the tourney, and scored at will in the paint during the championship game even despite playing limited minutes due to foul trouble.

The event was a smash hit with players, coaches and fans. Many thanks go out to the parents and students who helped organize and volunteered their time for the weekend. We received many contributions from local businesses and townspeople and would like to extend thanks to the following: Clayton Pottle for help scheduling officials, Coastal Maine Popcorn for sponsoring the “Official” Player of the Game awards, Grover’s Hardware for contributing tourney T-shirts, Hannaford for their donations to concessions, the P.T.A. and Boosters for use of equipment, and special thanks go out to Eric Dunton and staff for setting up both gyms and being on call all day.
