Kane graduates from Navy boot camp
Griffin Kane of Boothbay graduated (PIR) from Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois on July 3.
During the nine weeks of training, recruits undergo intense training in physical fitness, firefighting, weapons training, naval history, water survival, marching and drilling, customs and courtesies, laws of armed conflict, shipboard communication, Navy ship and aircraft identification, and Marlinespike (Basic Seamanship Phase). Battle Stations is Navy boot camp’s ultimate test. It consists of 12 different scenarios incorporating everything recruits have learned during the previous weeks.
Griffin is the son of Brendan Kane and Sarah Brewer and grandson of Martha Holbrook. He attended Boothbay Region High School and Bentley University.
Griffin followed in family members’ footsteps. His grandfather, Robert Holbrook, was a deep sea diver in the Navy, and his great-grandfather, Clyde Jones, was an officer in the Navy during World War II.
Directly after PIR, Griffin flew to Goose Creek, South Carolina to being two years of schooling in the nuclear program. Upon completion, he will be joining the submarine fleet.
