Just in time for the Fourth

If you were thinking of celebrating this July 4 with a lobster or two, how about 10?

Just in time for the holiday, the Community Center is selling raffle tickets for 10 lobsters – known as a pod.

Center secretary Jen Field contacted a group of local lobstermen asking if it would be possible to have the lobsters as a donation. Two anonymous lobstermen agreed and are donating part of their catch to help the Community Center raise funds that in turn benefit the community.

The Center has ongoing fundraisers throughout the year and this is the first one offering lobsters for the July 4 holiday. Another lobster raffle is planned for August.

Tickets are available for $5 each or three for $10, with all proceeds going to the Community Center.

The Center is entering its fourth year and relies on donations and fundraisers to keep offering its programs and services to residents of all ages, including trips around Maine, cribbage, knitting and sewing, crafts, puzzle solving, mahjong, dominoes as well as coffee, tea and sweet treats.

“We are very excited about the lobster raffle, especially since it’s timed for Fourth of July celebrations,” Field said.

Raffle tickets can be bought at the Center Mondays through Fridays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or from Center volunteers. The drawing will be held at 1 p.m. July 1. The winner can pick up the lobsters, either raw or steamed, at Atlantic Edge on Atlantic Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. For more information, call 633-9876.
