Juniper and McKown Points: Burnt Island Picnic/Field Day July 8
With an early deadline last Friday, I was scratching my head (under my rain hat) about what to write. The Lobster Bake is still a day away and won’t make this issue. Jean Dilley and Cindy Gagne have everything under control. Jean reported today they have all their positions filled with Christina Edwards stepping up to oversee the dessert table. Seems like that job would have been grabbed first. Jim Dilley and his brother Brian have to catch the 8 o’clock high tide on Saturday morning at the DMR boat ramp to fill up the lobster pots with sea water. I guess volunteers shouldn’t complain about husking corn in the afternoon. A full recap will be in next week’s column.
This just came in from Michelle Gagne: Michelle and her friend, Mike Weit, visited the Gagne cottage two weeks ago, during the sunniest days so far. Mike has ties to the Boothbay Region. His late wife Debra’s father, Dana Hale, was one of the lighthouse keepers on Burnt Island. Michelle had her friend Ann from Boston Island and this Anne over for Bunny’s blueberry muffin recipe and tea on the porch. The tradition continues and Michelle’s were just as good.
The man of the cottage commented this evening that he was a little depressed about all the fog. He should have gone with me to the 5 o’clock “pick me up” class with Joan! It’s a fun class with movement, stretching, balance and muscle work, all to upbeat music every Thursday, 5 to 6.
Saturday mornings it’s yoga with Romee, 8:45 to 10. Mats are available.
Next up is the Burnt Island Picnic/Field Day this Saturday, July 8 at 11 a.m. There is limited dock space at Burnt, plan to use the shuttles which will be running from the Juniper Point Dock (not Moore’s) starting at 10:30. Vanessa Lipschitz and Christina Edwards have lots of games planned but it’s not just for kids. Bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy relaxing “off Point” for a few hours where it's impossible to work on your cottage, garden or boat.
A reminder to drive slowly on McKown Point Road now that we are in full season. There’s lots of kids, dogs and boomers walking along the shoulder.
The swim float off Reed’s Beach needed some rebuilding and will be back in the water soon. Yes, despite the awful weather, real humans have been spotted swimming there. Tips, news and questions? Send them to annedooley@mindspring.com.
