Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club
It's still cold out there, but the earth is still turning and spring is on the way. Sunday night we had to “spring” forward for Daylight Savings Time. The spring (Vernal) equinox is on March 20, bringing almost equal hours of daylight and night.
But, the most important sign of spring is, you guessed it, the annual Rotary Barn clean out, Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m. Grab your gloves, trucks, trailers, senses of humor for a morning of “out with the old to make room for the new.” It's the ultimate in spring cleaning. Can you believe the Rotary Barn will be celebrating its fifth year. We have had fun while making a real impact in our community.
Last Thursday we welcomed Kevin Bowler and Linda Redman from the Boothbay Region Garden Club. The Boothbay Region Garden Club maintains several public gardens, provides scholarships for higher education in an earth science-based field, provides “camperships” to the YMCA and Sea and Science Center and much more. Their two major fundraisers, The Holiday Festival in December and the summer Home and Garden Tour are much anticipated events. Linda Redman gave us a moving history of the beginnings of the Blue and Gold Star Highway Markers, which honor all service men and women, past and present.
This Thursday it's president-elect Laurie Zimmerli, just back from PETS, at the microphone for a Rotary Barn group planning and organizing meeting. We're looking for your ideas and input about the Rotary Barn, ideas for projects for our community and how to maximize the effect of our time and work at the Rotary Barn. It's an amazing thing, The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club Barn. We're looking forward to another year.
Dues are due … $142, mailed to Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, P.O. Box 518, BBH, ME 04537, or leave your check in the desk drawer.
People Power needs you. Sign up often, it will do your heart good.
The “field” trip to Partners for World Health is rescheduled for Saturday, April 19 from 1-4 p.m. Our club has donated to PWH annually recognizing the amazing work they do worldwide. Come see for yourself where some of the money we raise at the Rotary Barn goes. We'll have a tour, then participate in a project. Any questions or to sign up, ask Irene.
See you Thursday.
