Dear Editor:

The LIVESTRONG at the Boothbay Region YMCA program helps cancer survivors to maintain or improve their health at their own level of ability. My own personal experience with our YMCA has been a positive one where I have maintained my levels of health and improved my amount of movement within some serious personal limits. The spring 2014 LIVESTRONG program was an enlightening experience full of professional health practitioners who visited us with a wealth of information to assist us with our goals. LIVESTRONG participants connect with each other to form a special bond of understanding which is very comforting while you stretch your own limits of tolerance. Each person’s exercise routine is carefully tailored to personal needs as well as physician approval before beginning class.

I am so glad to joined the free LIVESTRONG 12 week program last spring. The program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour and 15 minutes each of those days. After surviving cancer of any kind, I feel it is well deserved, special treatment time.

The next session of LIVESTRONG at the Y begins on September 23, 2014. Intake is currently taking place through Tuesday, September 16. Simply call the Y to arrange the mandatory intake meeting.  They must have six participants registered to run the program.
