Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?

Addressing the challenges of adequately funding schools and preparing students for the contemporary world is critical. It is precisely for these reasons I am vying for a position on the school board.

Our community continues to be challenged with adequately funding our schools, directly impacting the quality of education we can deliver. Striking a balance between fiscal responsibility and fostering an environment conducive to student success is paramount. Inadequate funding may result in overcrowded classrooms, limited resources, aging infrastructure, and restricted extracurricular opportunities. It is imperative to secure adequate funding to guarantee that our schools can provide a comprehensive education that caters to the diverse needs of all students, regardless of their backgrounds or
geographical locations.

In today's rapidly changing world, it's essential to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies they need to thrive in the 21st century workforce. This involves not only academic instruction but also teaching critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, digital literacy, and interpersonal skills. Additionally, there is a growing need to incorporate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and provide opportunities for career exploration and vocational training to prepare students for the demands of the modern economy.

School boards and the community should cultivate a cooperative partnership to achieve the objectives of educating our youth. Adopting an "us" versus "them" mindset undermines trust in the educational institution and its finances. As an educator, I make it a priority to highlight the importance of collaboration and respecting diverse viewpoints as essential values. It's a perspective I hope to contribute as a member of the school board.

Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office?

As a parent of a BRES (soon to be BRHS) student, a taxpayer within our community, and a teacher in another district myself, I understand the significance of education. However, the escalating costs associated with it make any enhancements and funding initiatives seem daunting and restrictive.

We must prioritize collaboration over conflict and strive for progress where it is necessary. It's essential to remember that ultimately, it's the adults who make decisions for students. Our choices profoundly influence their capacity to become valuable members of our community—individuals who may repair your car or roof, possibly teach your child or grandchild, or even become the CFO of the local bank.

In the end, our primary responsibility is to do what is best for our children while also maintaining fiscal responsibility. Finding a balance between these two objectives is critical, and there's a middle ground where both can be accomplished—a compromise that benefits everyone involved.
