James G. Lowe

James Glendon Lowe, 72, Boothbay passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine on Sept. 3, 2021.

He was born Feb. 9, 1949 in Bangor, the son of Madeline Theo Brown and Glendon Lowe.

Jim grew up in Corea, he spent much of his childhood with his grandparents in Steuben. He attended high school at Washington Depot High School in Roxbury, Connecticut and then attended Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine. He was an incredible basketball player and enjoyed playing soccer.

Jim was a lifelong lobster fisherman, he loved fishing and being on his boat, the Downeaster. Jimmy could always be found in the morning wearing a flannel shirt and red suspenders having coffee with whoever was around and enjoyed multiple breakfasts. He loved talking to others, listening, supporting and offering advice. He enjoyed splitting wood, working on traps/painting his buoys in his garage (which he made into his workshop). He was a strong believer in a daily nap in his recliner and was an avid animal lover, especially to his cat Sophie. Jim was a Friend of Bill W. for 42 years and was a firm believer in the so what crowd.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, cousin, Paula Leighton, and granddaughter, Katie Reed.

He is survived by his wife Sandra; children, Susan (Jon) Carr, Betsy Lowe (Pete Daley), Greta Lowe, Nancy (Cliff) Condon, and Kenneth Reed and Heather Payne; grandchildren and great grandchildren; Aunt Audrey Leighton; other family members, Linda (Frank) Redman, Jenny Brown; and many cousins. 

He will be missed by special friends of the fishing communities of the Boothbay region.

A boat parade will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. All boats are welcome; please gather near Mouse Island.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Barrett’s Park, Lobster Cove Road, Boothbay Harbor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boothbay Region Community Center, 185 Townsend Ave. Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or the Fishermen’s Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, in memory of James Lowe.
