The first-ever tie in the Miss Windjammer Pageant happened Monday night as Sophia Mansfield, 9, and Sarah Harris, 10, were both crowned Miss Windjammer 2018 after the competition. In the King of the Harbor competition between two talented boys, Spencer Pottle, 11, was crowned King.

Approximately 150 people watched the six girls and two boys entertain and provide answers during an interview session at the event held at the Boothbay Region YMCA and sponsored by Harbor Tech Solutions. Emcees were Michael Maxim and Roosevelt “Robo” Bishop.

After the contestants were introduced and asked the same four questions from Bishop, the talent portion of the pageant was held. Mansfield sang “Try Everything” by Shakira and Harris played the ukulele and sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” in the version made famous by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Pottle sang and danced to “Name in Lights,” from “The Boy from Oz.” Other contestants and their talent included Ronan Cullina singing “Can’t Wait to be King,” from “The Lion King”; Lindsey Clifford performing to an interactive video with dance and comedy; Maeve Cullina singing selections from “Singing In The Rain”; Teagan Bryce singing “Lost Boy” by Ruth B; and Bailey Lewis jumping rope to the song, “No Excuses,” by Meghan Trainor.

Serving as judges during the 90-minute pageant were area stage performer Tom Dewey, former Miss Maine Homecoming Queen Connie Faulkingham, production supervisor for Lincoln County Community Theater John Mulcahy, and Miss Maine 2016 Marybeth Noonan.

While the judges tallied their scores, Miss Windjammer 2017 Suzie Edwards sang “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele and Miss Windjammer 2016 Emerson Harris sang “Six Hours As A Princess” from “Children’s Letters to God.”

Helping with music was Y-Arts Director Emily Mirabile and assisting with stage props were former Y-Arts performers Jackie McLoon and Rick Hilsher.

Next up for the winning contestants were appearances at the Windjammer Days festivities, including riding through downtown Boothbay Harbor in the Street Parade set for 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 27.
