It’s basketball season, but Boothbay’s spirit is so much more!
Dear Editor:
When we think of basketball, we all imagine the excitement of the games, but here in Boothbay, there’s so much more to the experience than just the sport itself. I highly encourage you to come enjoy free, community-driven entertainment that goes beyond basketball. Based on my travels to many away games, here’s what makes Boothbay so unique.
We are one of a handful of schools that still has cheerleaders. This year we have enough talent to field two cheerleading squads! From sideline cheers to halftime performances, they do it all. But what truly sets us apart is our tradition: our cheerleaders make a huge banner for the players to run through before each game. It’s a thrilling moment that you won’t see anywhere else.
You might know them from our football games, but did you know our pep band performs at most of our home basketball games as well? Boothbay is the only school around with a pep band!
Another Boothbay exclusive: our students sing the national anthem. The level of talent is incredible, and it’s always a highlight of the night.
Don’t forget the homemade mac ‘n cheese at our concessions, just be quick, it sells out fast! You may also buy a brightly colored rubber duck for Chuck-a-Duck, a fundraiser supporting Project Graduation. It’s all part of the Boothbay spirit!
Our coaches are dedicated members of the community. Many of them coach our youth teams as well, making their impact felt far beyond the high school level. You’ll recognize them -- they live, work, and volunteer in Boothbay. And our student population is engaged -- if they are not directly participating, they are on the bleachers loudly cheering.
And here’s something even more special -- Boothbay is the only school that doesn’t charge admission to basketball games.
I encourage you to come out early, so you can see the players run through the banner. Come back often to cheer on our Seahawks, enjoy the pep band, see the cheerleaders in action, and witness the incredible national anthem performances. Don’t miss out on the fun -- let’s fill the bleachers with Seahawk pride!
