Insulting celebration

Mon, 06/10/2024 - 4:00pm

Dear Editor:

Does anyone else find it insulting that the entire month of June has been established (by who knows who?) as a month long celebration of the personal lifestyle chosen by those who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, transsexual, queer, and "plus" (whatever that lifestyle is)?

By contrast, the enormous sacrifices and wartime horrors experienced by our country's military are given just one day on the calendar to mourn those that gave their life, limbs, mental health, and family grief; that day being Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Not to forget one day for D-Day where  2,500 American soldiers and 1,900 allied soldiers died.

Just one day to celebrate the sacrifices made for the birth of our country, July 4th. Just one day to celebrate the birth of Christ and just one day to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Just one day to show our appreciation for the father of our country, George Washington, and only one day to recognize such leaders as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King.

And how about just one day each to recognize mothers (Mother's Day) and fathers (Father's Day) without which, of course, there would be no human race at all!

Yes, I find it insulting that our communities are expected to "celebrate" and display their "pride" for the contributions (?) to our country by the self established LGBTQ+ group, for the entire month of June!

BTW, should a similar request be put forth for a month long celebration for the heterosexual community, if so, someone needs to design a flag!
