Boothbay Region Garden Club House and Garden Tour

Iconic and idyllic

Sun, 07/14/2019 - 8:45am

The July 19 Boothbay Region House and Garden Tour is focusing on historic homes and it would be hard to imagine one better known and more likely to elicit nostalgia for the past than this beautiful family home that has played a large part in the history of Southport. Built in 1897, this former inn was known for its luxury accommodations, beautiful surroundings, fabulous water views/access and a genuine Maine experience second to none. Until its purchase as a private home in 2008, it stood as the oldest continuously operating hotel in the Boothbay Harbor region. In its heyday guests might enjoy the entertainment of live bands or simply take in the beauty of the secluded inlet on which it sits from the comfort of an Adirondack deck chair.

Over the last 100 years or so, the buildings on the property have been added onto, rearranged, eliminated, renovated and even relocated on the lot resulting in what you see today as a comfortable family home with a spacious wraparound deck, wide expanses of bright green lawn, a beautiful water view from almost any location inside or out, and airy but inviting rooms outfitted with lovely artwork and comfy furniture.

Don’t miss this opportunity to relive a bit of local history. Tickets are still available for the House and Garden Tour and can be purchased in person from the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce located at 192 Townsend Ave, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or directly from Irene Gerny (633-5052) or Pat McMurry (633-7405). Tickets are $30 prepaid and $35 the day of the tour. Only cash or checks will be accepted for payment.
